I am proud to call Fort McMurray my home. I believe in our region and its people, and I am optimistic about the future and believe that our best days are before us. My background in public and community service, as well as my business background, qualify me to serve as Mayor of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
I am a long term resident of Wood Buffalo. I am an active community member and volunteer, and have served as a board member of the United Way of Fort McMurray for six years, including as Board President. I have also served as a board member for the Legal Aid Appeal Board in Fort McMurray and Children First, as well as on the Northern Lights Health Region Ethics Committee. I currently serve as a Board member with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #165 and the United Way of Fort McMurray.
I am a graduate of the University of New Brunswick and the University of Cambridge. During my time in England, I served as an assistant solicitor with the Bloody Sunday inquiry. After returning to Canada I worked as a lawyer in Fort McMurray, and now manage my own law firm with a team of lawyers and support staff. My law firm was recognized by the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce as the 2016 Small Business of the Year. I have also served as a Bencher for the Law Society of Alberta and taught the Business Law Course at Keyano College.
I was elected as a Municipal Councilor for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in 2010. I was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for the constituency of Fort McMurray-Conklin in 2012, and later served as the Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education and Deputy Government House Leader. I returned to the practice of law in 2015.
Now I am ready to serve our region as your next Mayor and I seek your support on October 16, 2017.
